Mt view Mca Maurice Ochieng together with Westlands Mp Tim Wanyonyi have jointly distributed relief aid to kangemi Gichagi fire victims.

The relief items included foodstuff, blankets and mattresses.

Speaking at the scene of the fire in Gichagi, the Westlands MP called for decentralization of fire stations to informal settelements.

“I urge NMS to construct a fire station in Kangemi. By the time the fire brigades arrive from the city centre, a lot of destruction has been incurred,” said Tim Wanyonyi.

The legislator thanked the MCA for swiftly responding and joining him in the distribution of aid to the fire victims.

In his remarks, Mountain View MCA Maurice Ochieng commended Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi for continously supporting Mt View residents.

“We have come to give you the little resources we have. Whatever happens in Mt View and Westlands is as unique as the leaders. Our MP Tim Wanyonyi has consistently stood by our side and we will continue supporting him,” Maurice Ochieng said.

Thirty families were left homeless after fire destroyed 30 houses in Kangemi Gichagi slum in Nairobi on Friday evening.

Some of those affected sheltered at neighbours houses while others were left distraught in the cold.

The fire broke out at around 7pm on Friday and took one hour to be put out by the fire fighters from the Nairobi City County.

The neighbouring residents helped the fire fighters to contain the fire.

So far there were no fatalities neither no one sustaining minor injuries.

The cause of the inferno is yet to be established.
