Recent internal surveys by the party and lack of high voltage political activities in favour of ODM party leader have have contributed largely to the party’s decision to embrace negotiated democracy in the larger Maa region.

In Kajiado, the party had banked highly on former governor David Nkedianye but his fallen star seems to have not impressed the party’s top organ, who have turned focus to the neighboring Narok county while negotiating with current Kajiado governor Joseph Ole Lenku of Jubilee who is seeking to defend his seat.

Media reports have indicated that Jubilee and ODM are engaged in a delicate balancing act in the larger Maa region. In the do or make arrangement, Jubilee is poised to field a gubernatorial candidate in Kajiado while ODM will field a candidate in the same position for the Narok contest.

Governor Lenku has recently taken charge of Azimio activities in the county with high voltage political activities targeting all the communities in the region.

Lenku is currently the official Maasai Community spokesman and reports indicate that both president Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga want him to continue serving in the same position.

The two are also said to be having issues with Nkedianye who evoked serious tribal tensions in the county when he stated that he can’t take development to the urban centres in Kajiado because they are occupied mostly by non Maasais.

Nkedianye has also had several land related battles in the county and his candidature to recapture the seat has not been received well.

If this arrangement sails through,it means that Lenku is poised to face off with UDAs Katoo Ole Metito who is tipped favourite to win the ticket in the party primaries.

For Lenku, winning the trust of Mr Odinga and President Uhuru slightly elavates his status and further seals the trappings of power that come with being the Maasai spokesman.

On the other hand, Nkedianye could probably be exploring other options among them running as an independent candidate or negotiating with Lenku.
