NAIROBI, Kenya – October 10, 2024 — A consortium of Muslim organizations, including the Jamia Mosque Committee, Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), National Muslims Leaders Forum (NAMLEF), and Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), has launched a GAZA Medical Campaign aimed at raising funds to provide medical aid to the people of GAZA.

During a press briefing in Nairobi, the leaders expressed deep concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in GAZA, describing it as a “massacre of human dignity” and a “brutal assault on life.” The initiative seeks to raise $500,000 to assist the people of GAZA in receiving medical treatment, both within and outside the enclave. This comes as the region faces daily attacks, which have spread to Lebanon, causing massive destruction, displacement, and thousands of deaths.

Ahmed Sharrif, Chairman of the Voice for Palestine, urged the Kenyan government to stand with Palestine and leverage its role in peacekeeping efforts, particularly in the African Union, to advocate for peace and justice in the region. “Kenya has been a champion for peace in places like South Sudan, and we call on the government to extend the same support to Palestine in their fight for freedom and dignity,” said Sharrif.

The campaign highlights the dire situation in GAZA, where Israeli attacks have resulted in over 42,000 deaths and displaced more than 2 million people. With Israel blocking critical humanitarian supplies, the people of GAZA are facing starvation and severe shortages of medical aid.

Hassan Ole Naado, National Chairman of SUPKEM, appealed to all Kenyans to support the initiative by contributing through the M-Pesa Paybill number 150770, account name GAZA. “It’s time to unite as a nation, regardless of our backgrounds, and support the medical needs of innocent Palestinians,” he said.

The GAZA Medical Campaign is expected to work with international agencies to deliver much-needed medical assistance to the victims of the ongoing conflict.
