Marsabit, Kenya – April 19, 2025
Principal Secretary for Culture and National Heritage, Ummi Bashir, has unveiled two major cultural infrastructure projects in Marsabit County—the Loiyangalani Amphitheatre and the Marsabit Cultural Centre—in a bid to boost tourism, investment, and regional development.

Joined by Governor Mohamud Ali and Women Rep. Naomi Waqo, PS Bashir emphasized the importance of harnessing Marsabit’s rich heritage and ecological beauty. “We are investing in culture not just for preservation, but for economic growth and empowerment,” she said.

The amphitheatre will serve as a venue for festivals and performances, while the cultural centre will provide space for exhibitions, education, and traditional arts. Both are expected to strengthen Marsabit’s profile as a cultural tourism hub and create new opportunities for local communities.

Governor Ali hailed the move as “transformative,” saying it would attract visitors, strengthen local enterprise, and instill pride among residents.

The initiative also supports youth and women in the creative economy, aligning with national goals of inclusive development in historically marginalized areas. As construction begins, stakeholders remain hopeful that these projects will reposition Marsabit as a beacon of cultural and economic revival in northern Kenya.
