PS Mwadime Applauds Kenya-Germany Labour Pact as Pathway to Ethical Migration and Skills Growth

Nairobi, Kenya — Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development, Mr. Shadrack Mwadime, has lauded the recently ratified Kenya-Germany Migration and Mobility Partnership as a transformative milestone in ethical labour migration and international workforce development.
Briefing a special parliamentary committee, PS Mwadime outlined the agreement’s core objectives: streamlining labour exchanges, opening structured employment and training opportunities for Kenyan professionals in Germany, and strengthening bilateral cooperation in tackling irregular migration.
“This partnership isn’t just about sending workers abroad — it’s about creating equitable, protective, and growth-oriented pathways for Kenyans to thrive globally,” said Mwadime.
The agreement includes provisions for:
-
Ethical recruitment and robust consular support.
-
Combating human trafficking and irregular migration.
-
Student and apprentice migration, including extended stays for job seekers post-training.
-
Accelerated visa access for IT professionals and skilled workers, even those lacking traditional qualifications.
Germany will ease entry conditions by scrapping the traditional labour market test, while a Joint Implementation Committee will be set up to oversee execution and ensure continuous evaluation.
Mwadime hailed the deal as a “win-win,” highlighting its role in expanding opportunities for Kenyan youth, boosting remittance inflows, and deepening Kenya-Germany relations.
“This is a blueprint for smart migration,” he concluded, urging Parliament and stakeholders to support its swift operationalization.
