Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has called on Kenya’s regulatory agency heads to adopt visionary, tech-driven leadership to accelerate national development. Speaking at a high-level dinner for regulators at Eka Hotel, Eldoret, Miano emphasized that regulators must move beyond rule enforcement to actively shaping economic and social transformation.
Joined by senior officials including Chief of Staff Felix Koskei and principal secretaries, Miano underscored the critical role of regulators in driving trust, efficiency, and competitiveness. “The effectiveness of regulators determines the pace of growth and public trust,” she noted.
Reflecting on her experience as KenGen CEO, she highlighted the power of clear, people-centered vision. “Our mission to ‘light up Kenya sustainably’ shaped every decision,” she said, urging agencies to align with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and Vision 2030.
She advocated for inclusive stakeholder engagement and shared that public forums at KenGen enhanced community trust. Miano also called on agencies to embrace AI, automation, and data analytics to boost transparency and efficiency, citing examples like real-time tax fraud detection and AI-driven market oversight.
“Technology alone isn’t enough,” she added. “Invest in talent, create sandbox spaces for innovation, and benchmark globally.”
Closing with a call for integrity, professionalism, and diverse leadership, Miano reminded attendees: “Encourage dissent, listen deeply, and lead with humility.”
