Nairobi City County Assembly Clerk Edward Gichana has today stepped down from the position of of the clerk pending determination of an appeal lodged by the City assembly Clerk Jacob Ngwele.
This comes after the court of appeal ruled both parties current and outgoing clerks to step aside until the case is fully settled.
“While I shall be seeking justice in the same court, as a law abiding citizen whose only mistake was to apply for this job, I have today, Monday 7th June, 2021 stepped aside from this position of clerk as directed by the Court,”Gichana stated.
Gichana handed over the office this morning to his deputy in charge of administrative services, Ms Pauline Akuku.
The county assembly will operate without a substantive clerk due to court orders barring both former clerk Jacob Ngwele and Edward Gichana from office,TopNews.co.ke has learnt.
An Appeal Court on Friday 4th June ordered assembly clerk Edward Gichana to vacate office pending the determination of a law suit against him.
Former clerk Jacob Ngwele moved to the Court of Appeal to challenge the Labour Court ruling declaring him illegally in office, allowing for Gichana’s appointment.
