More than two thousands of Street families in Nairobi on Monday 13th December received a rare Christmas treat from well wishers.
The Street families are now seeking for hope and Compassion this holiday season just like any other Kenyans.
The families claims that they have endured the most trying moments in their lives and have no support network to give them aray of hope for a better tomorrow.
“We want to thank Zero Street family Child foundation for remembering us,this atrue reflection of humanity, they gave us the little they had we welcome more well wishers to help us,”Mike Mwangi one of the Street families said.
The families who included mothers, children and midleaged adults called on the government to address their grievances ,one being the rampant police brutality while they are on streets and also lack of health care services due to their nature of hygiene.
“We ladies especially if you go to pumwani or mama Lucy and you are about to deliver, you are chased away because we have no Linda mama or IDs,”Mary Njeri stated.
Benson Kamau one of the Zero street child foundation Patron, said that their goal is to build a rescue centre in Nairobi, whereby they will rehabilitate those who are in technical conditions and as well empower them through employment which will ensure that those children won’t get back to streets again.
The number of Street children in Nairobi and Mombasa has been increasing despite measures such as admissions to care homes.
