A man was charged in court after allegedly evading the bills at a Nairobi joint where he had spent time with a female companion.
Identified as Jeff Otieno Owiti, the man checked into Bila Shaka Bar and Restaurant in the CBD, where he ordered food and drinks while in the company of the said woman. However, Owiti disappeared after he was done with the meals, the woman following suit moments later.
The management at the restaurant waited for their return to no avail, informing the police, who launched a search for the accused persons. Owiti was traced by the police, who later presented him before Senior Principal Magistrate Philip Mutua at the Kibera Law Courts, where he denied the charges against him.
“Owiti incurred a debt to Bila Shaka bar and Restaurant amounting to Ksh19,050 having consumed drinks and food falsely pretending that you were in a position to pay for them and failed to honour the payment,” the court was told.
The court was told that the accused had become notorious for the behaviour, having done the same in 2019.
He was granted a KSh 50,000 cash bail. The case has been slated for a mention later this month.
