There is a major ownership crisis in the newly formed United Progressive Alliance-UPA and a section of party stakeholders and founders are threatening to move to court on the same.
UPA was launched some weeks ago in Kileleshwa and its leaders had vowed to use it in upholding democracy, fight corruption and advocate for good governance but according to an insider the party is in crisis as some leaders accuses party officials and new suitors who were welcomed to the party recently of plotting to chase them out of the party.
“There has been secret plans and meetings by people determined to destroy our party and these people have compromised some party official and ORPP” he said.
He added that some party officials and outsiders were peddling lies about the activities of the party and had also forged minutes and party documents to permanently change the party leadership.
According to political analyst Moses Munoko, United Progressive alliance is headed to the political darkness if the issue is not well addresses.
Munoko said , party officials and stakeholders should be marketing the party and working in unity for the party to achieve it’s goal.
“UPA party officials, and all stakeholders needs to be marketing the party but as per what I see, the party is heading nowhere if the conflict persist as it is,” he said.
United Progressive party was officially launched some few weeks ago at Kileleshwa within Nairobi county.
It was formerly known as (PED) party of economic democracy before it was rebranded.
There are indications that people in government have been involved in pushing to influence the leadership of the party as a platform for the Omogusii community where the party is predominantly anchored.
Officials privy to the workings indicate that two camps supportive of the CS interior are entangled in a vicious war over the control of the party and a few people the media can verify who were involved in crafting and registering the party are determined to put in a serious fight over the control of the new outfit.
It’s believed that many aspirants and professionals who had put their interest in the party have reached out to the founders to go slow on this matter but they have turned this down owing to the fact that the other camp had claimed that they were paid KSH.
10 million to give out the party which was a publication to taint them in bad light.
So serious are the issues that the party activities have been stopped and the much anticipated launch shelved because most of the stakeholder decided to unearth the scheme crafted by a section of officials.
Word has it that a few officials were engaged in changing the leadership without involving the founders of the party which was detected at the last minute and the registrar of political parties decided to stop the process.
A few officials have indicated that they are ready to resign because those involved are very powerful individuals in the current government.
Until recently, the party has performed well in several byelections but they fear the new entrants are determined to destroy the party.
“We are ready to face them in court because they have been hiding and pushing their agenda in camera. They should return our party documents that we honorably have them trusting they were coming in to support of the agenda of the party,” they said.
