Optiven Foundation through its Feed one More initiative over the weekend distributed foodstuffs to more than 200 elderly people from the arid part of Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County.
With the hunger crisis witnessed across the Country, the Optiven Foundation continues to work with volunteers and partners to raise funds and donate food to communities affected.
The initiative aims to rally Kenyans to come together and support those suffering from the effects of the prolonged drought.
Speaking during the exercise, Optiven Foundation Chairman and Trustee George Wachiuri urged well-wishers to exercise humanity by donating food to those affected across the Country.
He said that through Feed One More program, Optiven is they are keenly complementing both Government and other non-governmental organizations in reducing the direct effects of this drought.
Wachiuri noted that through the initiative, hundreds of Kenyans in Kajiado, Laikipia, parts of Nairobi, and now Kieni have benefited and they will continue reaching out to more counties as part of corporate Social responsibility.
“We want to thank Kenyans of goodwill and in particular our customers, for partnering with us and thus enabling us to support food-stricken Kenyans to get a meal on their table,” said Wachiuri.
He cited Marsabit, Kitui, Garissa, Wajir, and Lodwar as the worst-hit areas where the well-wishers can start supplying food donations and urged Kenyans to embrace the spirit of sharing.
He noted that the food distribution drive will now be in Samburu County which has heavily been affected by the drought.
“Many of the elderly people in the Country are in dire need of food since for the last two seasons, there has been drought with no harvest, we are set to impact more lives through the initiative, “he said.
The Optiven Foundation focuses on education scholarships, uplifting the physically challenged through offering wheelchairs, environmental protection through the Go-Green Initiative for a sustainable planet, and the promotion of sanitation.
Wachiuri rallied more Kenyans to partner with them and rescue those who are suffering.
On 16th September, Optiven Foundation empowered the Laikipia County community in Nanyuki by donating food to hundreds of people affected by the ongoing ravaging drought.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) region has experienced four back-to-back below-average rainy seasons.
