The cabinet secretary for Labour and Social Protection has launched the electronic Identification Cards which will enable persons living with disabilities access government services and reduce irregularities and impersonation of people identifying themselves as persons living with disabilities.

This comes after persons who falsely presented themselves as PWDs kept on enjoying the privileges of the latter using the old cards.

The National Council for People with Disabilities developed the new registration system which was launched by the former President on 3rd December 2021 during the International Day for Persons with disabilities.

Speaking during the unveiling of the event CS Florence said that the new system will provide a new generation of cards that will have adequate data which includes administrative data and socio-economic status of persons with disabilities.

“I worked with PWDs initially when I was serving as the member of parliament representing Kericho County and I pledge to work with you efficiently. These cards have a number of security features which will limit cases of misuse of the card by persons without disabilities who previously could easily acquire a disability identification card,” stated Hon. Bore.

Bore added that they target to issue one million cards to cover all Kenyans living with disabilities and lobbied for many to register.

The Chief Executive Officer for the NCPD Kenya Harun M. Hassan said the cards will help to weed out fake people employed as PWDs through the old system.
