The Movement for Defense and Democracy lobbying for better livelihood in the tough economic times and famine ravaging the country has thrown its heavyweight behind Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
During the Azimio wagon public consultation meeting in Mlolongo, the movement declared Kenyans are aware that Mr Raila Odinga won the August 9 election but the then Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairperson denied him the victory.
Led by John Mukhoya, the MDD castigated the Kenya Kwanza administration for failing the people of Machakos and Kenya at large by allowing famine and drought to ravage families and keep children out of school.
“The new administration made a promise to make food available, affordable and sufficient in reasonable quantities immediately after assuming power. Tell people why food remains unavailable and unaffordable. The financial stipend must immediately be made available to poor families and youths who are struggling to make ends meet,” Mukhoya said.
They say Ruto should be fulfilling his manifesto and stop politics of revenge and corruption.
“The regime promised there would be money in Kenyans’ pockets immediately they are sworn in, the money needs to get to needy families now,” he added.
The lobby group also want bursaries and all monies meant to support the education of poor children to reach schools and no child should be sent home for lack of money.
In what was referred to as the Mavoko declaration, Raila wants William Ruto’s administration to immediately abandon its plans to sell state parastatals and that the Ukambani region will not allow Kenya Meat Commission and East Africa Portland Cement Company to be sold since they have picked up and employed hundreds of locals.
“People need food, water, seeds and bursaries across this region. Money must be released to the counties based on the formula proposed by the Revenue Sharing Commission and Council of Governors,” Raila said.
