Raila Odinga‘s rise to prominence in Kenyan politics has been marred by a trail of destructive politics and violence that has left a lasting impact on the nation’s history.

His continuous organization of weekly demonstrations has caused widespread discontent among Kenyans, who are now urging the government to put an end to these disruptive protests, citing them as a form of economic sabotage.

Raila Odinga’s demonstrations, which were initially intended as a means to express grievances and demand change, have evolved into a destructive force that is tearing at the fabric of the nation. These demonstrations have disrupted the normal functioning of businesses, caused extensive damage to public and private property, and unleashed a wave of insecurity and uncertainty among ordinary citizens.

Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria recently dared the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya opposition coalition to call for mass protests following the passing of the controversial Finance Bill, 2023 by the National Assembly on Wednesday.

Speaking last week after Azimio announced they will be holding a public baraza on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to issue the way forward after passing of the bill, Kuria hit out at the opposition saying: “demonstrations is not a monopoly of someone.”

The Trade CS said if the opposition holds protests against the Bill, they would also organize protests in support of the bill.

“Demonstrations is not a monopoly of someone. They can demonstrate against, we are going to demonstrate for. Kwani they own the streets? We can also go to those streets. Tukutane huko,” said Kuria.

Political pundits believe that the economic consequences of Raila’s weekly demonstrations cannot be understated.

The disruptions caused by these protests have resulted in substantial financial losses for businesses across the country as investors, both local and foreign, are deterred by the volatility created by the ongoing demonstrations, leading to a decline in investments and job opportunities for Kenyans.

The ripple effect of this economic sabotage is felt by ordinary citizens, who bear the burden of a weakened economy and the subsequent hardships it brings.

Moreover, the continuous cycle of violence and chaos during these demonstrations has taken a toll on the social fabric of Kenya. Lives have been lost, families have been torn apart, and communities have been divided.

The emotional and psychological impact on the affected individuals cannot be quantified. Kenya, a nation known for its resilience and unity, is now grappling with the aftermath of these destructive protests, with trust and social cohesion eroded.

Kenyans are increasingly voicing their discontent and frustration with Raila Odinga’s continuous organization of these disruptive demonstrations. They argue that these protests are no longer serving their intended purpose but rather inflicting further harm on the nation.

The calls for the government to intervene and put an end to these demonstrations are growing louder, as ordinary citizens demand stability, peace, and an opportunity to rebuild their lives.

It is high time that Raila Odinga and his supporters reflect on the consequences of their actions. They must recognize the significant harm caused by the continuous disruption of daily life and the negative impact on the nation’s economy.

It is crucial for them to understand that progress and change can be achieved through constructive dialogue, engagement within the democratic system, and the pursuit of peaceful means.

The economic sabotage, social divisions, and loss of lives resulting from these protests cannot be ignored. and therefore it is imperative for Raila Odinga to reassess his approach and seek alternative avenues to express grievances and advocate for change.
