The boost also included a wave of defections from the KANU Kirinyaga branch and the addition of over 100 former elected leaders, ranging from members of parliament to county assemblies in the Mount Kenya region.

The New Democrats Party actively engaged delegates from all counties in the Mount Kenya region, along with officials from various parties nationwide.

Democratic Party (DP)’s national chairman, Essau Kioni, expressed the party’s willingness to collaborate with Thuo Mathenge’s TND party, emphasizing the shared goal of uniting the region for growth and prosperity.

Kioni explained, “I know people will wonder what I’m doing in TND party event, but I’m here as a friend of Thuo Mathenge, and as DP, we are willing to work with them to promote unity in our region.”

Thuo Mathenge, the national chairman of TND, highlighted the party’s strategic rebranding for the upcoming election and its commitment to revolutionize the political landscape in the Mount Kenya region.

He emphasized the New Democrats Party’s goal of championing the interests of the people and establishing grassroots movements across the country.

As a symbolic transition, the party’s emblem changed from a bridge to a hen and egg, representing Mathenge’s well-known name, Wanguku.

Thuo Mathenge expressed readiness to join forces with like-minded leaders to promote the unity of Mount Kenya.

The event also witnessed significant defections, with five Kanu officials in Kirinyaga County switching allegiance to The New Democrats Party.

Among them were John Ngure Gathungu (chairman), Francis Hinga (vice-chairman), Moses Waweru Mugo (Secretary General), Jane Muthee (women leader), and Jane Thara (chairperson Gichugu).

The party welcomed notable additions, including former Ngobit MCA Robert Maina (Roberto) and former Kirimukuyu MCA James Kibira.

Thuo Mathenge expressed optimism about the fresh start, stating, “We are starting afresh. It represents a new beginning, and we will move to every corner, talking about the benefits of having a regional party for the interests of the region.”
