The Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, Zacharia Njeru, accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to Kenya, Roberto Natali, recently undertook a tour and inspection of water supply and sanitation projects in Baringo County.
The visit commenced with a warm reception from Baringo County’s leadership, led by Governor Benjamin Cheboi and the Baringo County Commissioner. The high-profile delegation engaged in discussions about the progress and challenges facing water projects in the county.
Before venturing into the field, CS Zacharia Njeru briefed the media on the ongoing projects, highlighting the pressing issue of Non Revenue Water affecting not only Baringo County but the nation at large. He stressed the importance of addressing this challenge to ensure efficient water supply to all Kenyans.
The Italian Ambassador, Roberto Natali, expressed his country’s commitment to its longstanding relationship with Kenya, emphasizing the fruitful collaboration between the two nations over the years. This collaboration has been instrumental in supporting various development projects, including water and sanitation initiatives.
During the inspection, several key projects were visited by the delegation. The Kirandich Phase 2 dam site saw a focus on environmental conservation with tree planting activities. Additionally, the team assessed the functionality of the Kabasis/Kituro tanks and launched the groundbreaking for a pipeline construction along the Kabarnet-Marigat Highway near Kapropita.
A layout presentation was made for the Chemususu Phase 2 project, alongside the last mile connectivity program at Muserechi. Once completed, this initiative aims to serve communities in Eldama Ravine, Mogotio, and Rongai constituencies, significantly improving water accessibility in these areas.
The event also saw political unity, with Members of Parliament from the mentioned constituencies, including Hon. Chebor, Reuben Kiporek, and Sirma, showing their support and participation.
The delegation was further bolstered by the presence of key officials including Water Secretary Eng SAO Alima EBS, Chair CRVWWDA Mathenge Nderitu, and CEO Murei, all of whom played crucial roles in ensuring the success of the inspection.
The tour and inspection underscored the commitment of both national and international stakeholders to improving water, sanitation, and irrigation infrastructure in Baringo County. With collaborative efforts and continued support, these projects are expected to make a significant impact on the lives of the local communities by enhancing access to clean and reliable water sources.
