IGAD Donates Mobile Laboratory to Improve Healthcare Access in Kenyan Rural Areas

The Ministry of Health received a Sh24 million mobile laboratory donation from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the European Union.

Mounted on an all-terrain lorry, the lab promises breakthroughs in outbreak response and healthcare access. The handover was facilitated by Fatuma Adan of Health Mission Kenya and EU Deputy Head of Delegation Ondrej Simek.

PS Muthoni emphasized the need to invest in laboratory services to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

She highlighted existing disparities in healthcare access between urban and rural areas, leading to widespread issues of misdiagnosis or lack of diagnosis in rural Kenya.
