In the aftermath of catastrophic floods that have wreaked havoc in Ruaraka Constituency and the entire Nairobi,Ruaraka UDA leader Boaz Kiprop Cheluget is calling for an immediate review of infrastructure in Nairobi City.
The floods have caused extensive damage and displacement, underscoring the urgent need for improved infrastructure resilience.
Boaz, a prominent figure in Ruaraka and the undisputed UDA Chair in the Constituency, led a rescue team early Wednesday morning to assist those stranded by the rising waters.
Among those rescued was a 2022 MCA aspirant and her child, highlighting the severity of the situation.
“The resilience of our infrastructure is being tested,” remarked Hon. Boaz. “We’ve seen roads submerged, drainages failing, and countless people displaced from their homes. Our infrastructure urgently needs strengthening to withstand such disasters.”
He urged the County Government to collaborate closely with the National Government to address the infrastructure challenges.
“The County and National Governments must work together synergistically to enhance the strength and reliability of our infrastructure,” Boaz emphasized.
The recent floods have once again highlighted the vulnerabilities in Nairobi’s infrastructure. Blocked drainages and overwhelmed stormwater systems have exacerbated the flooding, causing widespread devastation in the community.
Mr.Boaz also issued a cautionary message to Kenyans, urging them to exercise caution during the ongoing rainy season.
“I’d like to call upon Kenyans to avoid unnecessary risks. The weather forecast predicts continued heavy rains, and it’s vital that we prioritize safety,” he said.
The call by Boaz for an infrastructure review comes as a timely reminder of the importance of proactive measures to mitigate the impact of natural disasters. It underscores the need for collaborative efforts between local and national authorities to address infrastructure deficiencies and enhance community resilience.
As the cleanup and recovery efforts continue in Ruaraka and other affected areas, Hon. Boaz’s leadership and advocacy for infrastructure improvements serve as a beacon of hope for the community, emphasizing the importance of preparedness, collaboration, and public safety during times of crisis.
