Cabinet Secretary for Water Sanitation and Irrigation, Mr. Zachariah Njeru, convened a pivotal meeting on Tuesday with leaders from the Ukambani region to discuss pressing water issues and connectivity projects.
The meeting, held at Maji House in Nairobi, saw the participation of key figures such as Cabinet Secretary for EAC, ASALs & Regional Development, Peninah Malonza, and Principal Secretary – Devolution, Office of the Deputy President, Ms. Terry Mbaika. Also present were Principal Secretary for the State Department of Water and Sanitation, Mr. Julius Korir, and Water Secretary Eng SAO Alima.
Representing the Ukambani region were MPs from Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni counties. Notable attendees included Honourable Vincent Musyoka Kawaya (Mwala), Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South), Joshua Mbithi Mwalyo (Masinga), Nimrod Mbai (Kitui South), and Mwengi Mutuse (Kibwezi West).

The meeting served as a follow-up to a previous gathering hosted by President William Ruto at State House on April 22nd, 2024. During that meeting, Kenya kwanza Elected MPs and senior government officials from the Ukambani region engaged in discussions focusing on the region’s development priorities. The dialogue encompassed areas such as water, infrastructure, education, and agriculture, laying the groundwork for collaborative efforts to address pressing regional needs.
With the collective efforts of government officials and regional leaders, this meeting marked another step towards achieving sustainable water solutions and improving connectivity in the Ukambani region.
