Leaders in Ruaraka have strongly denounced a violent attack that occurred during the UDA party election in the constituency yesterday, leaving two individuals hospitalized in the Lucky Summer area of Nairobi County. Among the injured are Timber on the Road returning officer and a party coordinator in Nairobi, both of whom sustained injuries to their face and leg.
Led by Hon. Dr. Boaz Cheluget, who is vying for the UDA Chairmanship in Ruaraka, the leaders expressed shock and dismay over the incident, calling for immediate action to be taken against the perpetrators. Dr. Cheluget emphasized that the attackers are well-known individuals whose aim was to disrupt the election process, which ultimately led to chaos.
Describing the harrowing events, Dr. Cheluget stated, “Yesterday we had a very sad day on Timber on the road polling center only, our coordinators who are very independent, who were working for the party were attacked, injured and still in the hospital. They are volunteers for the party. No one is bailing them out. And they are in the hospital.”
He identified the attackers as Dennis Ambayi alias Sonko who assaulted the returning officer for Timber on the Road, and Harun, a protocol person of Sakaja, who attacked the Ruaraka coordinator. Dr. Cheluget highlighted the severity of the injuries, revealing that one of the victims lost teeth, while the returning officer sustained injuries affecting their vision.
Expressing frustration over the lack of arrests, Dr. Cheluget called for the immediate protection of the victims’ rights and swift action against the perpetrators. He condemned the instigation of violence and called for the removal and prosecution of those responsible for planning, fueling, perpetrating, or financing such acts.
Dr. Cheluget emphasized that violence has no place in the democratic process and urged authorities to ensure the safety and integrity of future elections. He called upon the community to stand united against such acts of violence and work towards a peaceful and fair electoral process.
The leaders’ condemnation of the attack underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law and protecting the democratic rights of all citizens. As investigations continue into the incident, there is a collective call for justice and accountability to prevail, ensuring that such incidents are not repeated in the future.
