Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s interview on the Obinna show is the most watched since the inception of the show that has become home to many YouTube users in the country.

The show attracted over half a million views and hundreds of comments as the former governor revisited his short-lived stint at City Hall.

The show has still emerged as number one for five days after the interview on Monday with Dem wa Facebook’s interview coming a distant third.

The interview that went viral prompted the Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) to demand that YouTube content creators obtain a practicing license.

During the show, Sonko lamented on how he was illegally impeached, his fight with cartels, and why leading Nairobi as governor is a delicate balancing act.

He said his strong stand against illegal demolitions, revenue leakages and the entranged cartel networks saw him impeached

KFCB flagged Obinna and several other artists for not having filming licenses, a move that has attracted public outcry.

This comes at a time when the US government and Kenya have agreed on a shared partnership in the promotion of digital content and the creation of more jobs through the use of technology.

“This is rubbish. Oga Obinna doesn’t need a license from you for his Youtube channel—just like no one needs a license to post on Instagram, Facebook, or Xspaces,” former Raila aide Miguna Miguna condemned KFCB.

Other artists including comedian Mulamwa were also flagged but KFCB Board Chair Njogu Wa Njoroge took to social media to deny any such decision.

“Our content creators should be supported all the way. They should be encouraged and supported 100%.We should be training our youth on monetization, and we are deliberate on that matter.I have directed the management to withdraw the notices and organize for an engagement with all the stakeholders”
