On behalf of Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa, the Deputy Governor led the County team in a meeting with a delegation from the Micro Enterprise Support Programme Trust (MESPT), headed by CEO Ms. Rebbecca Amukuye.
The meeting, held in the Governor’s boardroom at the County Headquarters, marked the beginning of a monitoring review program of projects initiated since 2018, when MESPT became instrumental in the county’s quest to achieve food security.
Food security remains a key pillar in Governor Barasa’s manifesto. MESPT has enrolled 3,500 farmers in Kakamega County, providing capacity building on Green Employment in Agriculture. This initiative includes offering market access for aquaculture and poultry and providing financial support through microfinance loans and grants to farmers.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor praised the significant impact of MESPT’s initiatives on local farmers and assured the delegation of the county government’s unwavering support under Governor Barasa’s leadership.
Key county officials present at the meeting included the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Cooperatives, Mr. Godfrey Owouri; County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Dr. Laurence Omuhaka; Chief Officer Agriculture, Mr. Emmanuel Kariuki; Chief Officer Cooperatives, CPA Bill Silingi; and Chief Officer Resource Mobilisation and Donor Relations, Dr. Barrack Otieno.
The collaboration between Kakamega County and MESPT underscores a committed effort to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure sustainable food security for the region.
