Preethi Herman, the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nguvu Collective, is championing an ambitious initiative to foster positive social transformation by advocating for increased inclusivity of women in leadership positions.
Nguvu Collective, a social impact and international development organization, is dedicated to supporting emerging leaders from marginalized communities to create significant social impact.
Preethi Herman, along with like-minded individuals and organizations, aims to inspire thousands of women to step up into leadership roles, emphasizing the profound positive impact this can have on society. She identifies patriarchy as the most significant barrier hindering women’s advancement into leadership positions. Women, particularly those from marginalized communities and informal settlements, are often isolated and discouraged by their male counterparts. Nguvu Collective is determined to break this narrative and empower women to lead.
As part of this initiative, Nguvu Collective plans to bring together 25 women leaders from marginalized communities to share their views, challenge others to follow suit, and build connections that will sharpen their change-making processes. The organization aims to create a roadmap for these women to highlight their campaigns, whatever positive impact they wish to achieve. This initiative will support women in overcoming the difficulties they face in being recognized and valued as leaders.
Preethi Herman envisions a generational shift in leadership dynamics in Kenya and other African countries, advocating for a future where women play a pivotal role in leadership. Nguvu Collective has been implementing similar programs for eight years across various countries, including India, Indonesia, Japan, Brazil, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.
Kenya has been prioritized for this initiative due to the evident desire, hunger, and enthusiasm for change among its people. The country shows a strong demand for such programs, making it an ideal focus for Nguvu Collective’s efforts.
The initiative addresses critical issues such as child marriage, obstetric violence, female genital mutilation (FGM), cyberbullying, and the need for safe houses for women who are victims of sexual and gender-based violence and discrimination. Over the next two months, the organization will mentor these women, helping them convert their issues into impactful campaigns. This support will enhance their stories and encourage collaboration among social change leaders.
By working with government bodies, businesses, and encouraging women to run for office, Nguvu Collective aims to create a space for women driving change. The ultimate goal is to see more women in leadership roles, driving social transformation and ensuring a more inclusive and equitable society.
Preethi Herman’s vision for Nguvu Collective underscores the importance of empowering women from marginalized communities and supporting their journey to leadership. Through this initiative, Nguvu Collective is poised to make a lasting impact on the social landscape, not only in Kenya but across the globe.
