The Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA), led by Business Marketing Development Trade (BMDT) Team Lead Caroline Kioko, representing MSEA Director General and CEO Henry Rithaa, hosted a significant preparatory meeting for the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) project. This meeting marked the beginning of the World Bank Mission meetings, which will run from May 27, 2024, until June 6, 2024.
The World Bank Mission Team, led by Task Team Leader Kevin Herania and Co-Task Team Leader Federica Ricardi, joined forces with various government entities, including the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports (MOYASA), National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), and National Employment Authority (NEA). Together, they discussed crucial aspects of the NYOTA project, which aims to support youth entrepreneurship across Kenya’s 47 counties.
Key points of discussion during the meeting included an overview of the NYOTA project’s Component 2, which targets 110,000 youth by providing support for entrepreneurial activities. The collaborative efforts among these agencies are pivotal for the successful rollout of the project, ensuring that the youth receive the necessary resources and opportunities to thrive in their entrepreneurial endeavors.
Caroline Kioko emphasized the importance of this initiative in empowering the youth and fostering economic growth through entrepreneurship. The MSEA’s collaboration with the World Bank and other government entities underscores a comprehensive approach to tackling youth unemployment and promoting sustainable development.
The ongoing meetings reflect a strong commitment to detailed planning and coordination, crucial for the effective implementation of the NYOTA project. By focusing on entrepreneurship, the project aims to unlock the potential of young people, providing them with the skills, resources, and support needed to succeed in the competitive business environment.
The NYOTA project represents a significant step towards creating a more inclusive economy, where young entrepreneurs can contribute to national development and economic stability. The outcomes of these preparatory meetings will lay the groundwork for a transformative initiative that aspires to bring about lasting positive change for Kenya’s youth.
As the World Bank Mission meetings continue, stakeholders remain optimistic about the project’s potential to drive meaningful progress and offer new opportunities for the youth across the country.
