Technical Training Institutes (TTIs), also known as Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions, play a crucial role in ensuring that education is accessible to all.

Historically, only a few students had the opportunity to join universities, leaving the majority to navigate the informal sector, often referred to as the “jua kali” sector.

Emining Technical Training Institute (TTI), located in Mogotio, Baringo, exemplifies the transformative impact of these institutions. Established in 2014, Emining TTI has grown significantly and currently boasts a student population of approximately 2,000 under the wise and able leadership of Principal Jacob Kotut.

Students enroll in this esteemed institution to pursue a variety of programs, including Artisan, Craft, Certificate, and Diploma courses. Principal Kotut has extended a warm welcome to all students, including graduates from the Kenya National Youth Service (NYS), encouraging them to pursue technical courses offered at Emining TTI.

“Our courses include Science, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Engineering, Mathematics, Business, Driving, and Cosmetology and Hairdressing,” Principal Kotut said. “All our courses are examined by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), and the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB).”

Emining TTI ensures that all courses are thoroughly assessed and examined by the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment, and Certification Council (TVET CDACC). This assessment process combines practical and theoretical components, preparing students comprehensively for their careers.

The importance of TTIs like Emining cannot be overstated. They not only provide essential education and training but also equip students with the skills needed to thrive in various industries. By expanding access to technical education, TTIs play a pivotal role in fostering economic development and reducing unemployment, particularly in rural areas.

With continued support and development, TTIs will remain vital in transforming Kenya’s education landscape, offering students from all backgrounds the opportunity to achieve their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
