A delegation from the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture visited the site of the 2006 plane crash in Marsabit County that claimed the lives of prominent leaders, including MPs on a peace mission. This visit aligns with plans to erect a monument in honor of the accident’s victims.

At the time of the crash, Marsabit County was plagued by tribal clashes. The MPs who perished included Hon. (Dr.) Bonaya Godana, Hon. Mirugi Kariuki, Hon. Abdi Tari Sasura, Hon. Guracha Galgallo, and Hon. Titus Ngoyoni. Anglican Church Bishop Waqo and other senior civil servants in the security sector, who accompanied the MPs in their peace-seeking efforts, also lost their lives.

The National Heroes Council, under the State Department for Culture, intends to establish a monument at the crash site to honor the victims’ commitment and dedication to achieving lasting peace in Upper Eastern.

Earlier, Committee Members paid a courtesy call on the County Commissioner of Marsabit County. The Committee reaffirmed its commitment and support to the National Heroes Council in undertaking this noble project.
