Bolt, a leading ride-hailing company, has announced the advancement of its Accelerator Program in Kenya, marking a significant milestone with the selection of the top 20 participants who will progress to the Bolt Den Phase. Following a rigorous round of impressive pitches, these top 20 innovators have been chosen to move forward based on their fresh ideas and commitment to developing sustainable technology solutions.
Originally, 120 participants were selected from a highly competitive pool of contenders. These participants presented their innovative ideas through video pitches, each demonstrating a clear connection to Bolt’s vision for African cities. This vision emphasizes the well-being of citizens, environmental sustainability, and the accessibility of transportation for everyone in Kenya.
“We’re excited to move forward with this pivotal stage of our Accelerator Program,” said George Abasy, Bolt’s Public Policy Manager. “The passion and innovation shown by our participants are truly inspiring. This program offers Bolt drivers and boda boda riders a unique opportunity to embark on an entrepreneurial journey that resonates with Bolt’s vision for sustainable urban mobility in Kenya.”
The Bolt Den Phase, which also serves as the Bootcamp Phase, will involve these top 20 participants undergoing intensive training sessions with industry experts. This phase aims to further refine their ideas and prepare them for the highly anticipated Pitch Day in June, where they will compete for seed funding of €2000 each.
The innovative ideas that secured these participants a place in the top 20 include:
- Mobile EV charging services
- Motorcycle spare parts and service garages
- Enhanced safety dashboard camera installation services
- E-mobility hubs in Kenya
Meanwhile, the remaining 100 participants will continue their journey with the Bolt Academy. They will receive online business training through the Bolt Academy in collaboration with Alison, a leading online training platform. Upon completion, these participants will attend a virtual graduation ceremony to celebrate their achievements.
In collaboration with The Nest Innovation Technology Park, Bolt remains committed to providing a supportive ecosystem for all participants. Leveraging a network of experienced mentors, Bolt will guide these aspiring entrepreneurs through every stage of their journey.
The program will culminate with the Business Pitch Day scheduled for June. Here, the top 20 participants will compete for seed funding of €2000 each. The top ten business ideas will be selected to receive this funding, along with ongoing mentoring support to help nurture their ventures to fruition.
This development underscores Bolt and The Nest’s commitment to promoting entrepreneurship and sustainable urban mobility solutions within Kenya’s diverse communities. The initiative is a testament to the potential of innovative minds in driving sustainable progress and improving urban living conditions.
