In a significant step towards promoting economic transformation and sustainable development, Principal Secretary for Mining, Elijah Mwangi, joined Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing & Urban Development, Wahome Hon, and Murang’a County Governor, Irungu Kang’ata, for the public dissemination of the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV) 2023-2027 in Murang’a County today.
The dissemination event, an important part of national duty, saw the participation of a broad spectrum of stakeholders. Among those in attendance were Deputy Governor Stephen Munania, County Assembly Speaker Johnson Mukuha, several County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), Members of County Assembly (MCAs), senior National and County Government officials, Community Based Organizations, the clergy, representatives of special groups, youths, and members of the public.
MTP IV 2023-2027 represents the final five-year government development plan cycle derived from Vision 2030, Kenya’s development blueprint implemented in five-year phases. The plan crystallizes key government policies, programs, and projects under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). This agenda is envisioned to trigger economic resurgence, create employment opportunities, promote industrial and agricultural production, address debt issues, and empower the vulnerable by lowering the high cost of living.
During his address, PS Mwangi highlighted the strategic importance of the MTP IV in aligning national development goals with local needs. “This plan is not just a roadmap for national development but a commitment to ensure that every county, including Murang’a, benefits from the government’s economic transformation agenda,” he said.
CS Hon emphasized the inclusive nature of the MTP IV and its focus on grassroots development. “The Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda is about ensuring that growth benefits everyone, especially the marginalized and vulnerable groups,” he stated.
Governor Kang’ata expressed his optimism about the specific benefits that MTP IV would bring to Murang’a County. These include the implementation of the Studio Mashinani project to promote artistic skills and creativity, digitization of land records, irrigation of 5,000 hectares for agricultural production, construction of an Export Processing Zone (EPZ), and the construction of over 200 housing units.
The event underscored the collaborative efforts between the national and county governments in achieving the objectives of MTP IV. Speaker Mukuha and other local leaders reiterated their support for the plan and emphasized the importance of community involvement in its implementation.
MTP IV’s focus on economic resurgence, job creation, and the empowerment of vulnerable populations is expected to significantly impact Murang’a County and contribute to the overall development goals outlined in Vision 2030. The dissemination of MTP IV marks a critical step in ensuring that the public is informed and engaged in the development process, paving the way for successful implementation and sustainable growth.
The event concluded with a call to action for all stakeholders to actively participate in the realization of the MTP IV goals, ensuring that the benefits of economic transformation reach every corner of Murang’a County and beyond.
