Key ministry agencies that participated in this environmental restoration exercise included the Water Resource Authority, Water Sector Trust Fund, Athi Water Works Development Agency, and the National Water Harvesting Authority. The initiative was further bolstered by collaboration with various national government ministries and agencies such as the Kenya Forest Service, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Interior, and local representatives from the Kajiado Members of County Assemblies (MCAs).

The collaborative effort aligns with the national call to increase tree planting as a measure to secure the environment for future generations and address the adverse effects of climate change. The Ministry emphasized that continuous endeavors to nurture and sustain tree planting activities are vital for safeguarding, protecting, and restoring water sources.

Eng. Tito Mwamati highlighted the critical role that trees play in conserving water catchment areas, which is essential for sustainable hydration and prolonged ground recharge. “Restoring our water catchment areas through tree planting is not just an environmental imperative but a crucial step towards ensuring water security for future generations,” he stated.

The tree planting field day at Kimana Wetlands is part of broader national efforts to enhance environmental conservation and resilience against climate change. By engaging various stakeholders, including local communities and governmental bodies, the Ministry aims to create a sustainable impact that ensures the preservation of natural resources and promotes ecological balance.

This initiative marks a significant step towards fulfilling the Ministry’s commitment to environmental stewardship and highlights the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing the pressing issues of climate change and environmental degradation.
