The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) remains steadfast in its commitment to justice, following recent tensions within the judiciary. LSK President Faith Odhiambo has confirmed ongoing dialogues with Chief Justice Martha Koome and the leadership of key judicial associations to address the serious concerns stemming from last Thursday’s shooting incident.
“Following statements from the Judiciary Leadership Team and the KMJA, KJWA, and KJSA over the weekend, the Law Society of Kenya initiated dialogue with Chief Justice Martha Koome and the leadership of KMJA and KJWA to find a workable solution to the grave concerns arising from Thursday’s shooting without potentially crippling provision of court services,” stated Odhiambo.
The discussions have yielded positive outcomes, with assurances that courts will continue to operate to ensure access to justice and uphold the right to a fair hearing. “We are happy to inform litigants and members of the public that our engagements have been positive and we hope to ensure that courts continue to function to a reasonable degree that allows for access to justice and the right to fair hearing to prevail,” Odhiambo added.
The LSK, alongside judicial leaders, is focused on reinforcing security within the justice system and improving the working environment for all involved. Odhiambo emphasized the importance of patience and calmness from the public as the issues are being resolved. “We believe it is in the best interests of justice and constitutionalism that members of the public continue to receive basic court services as we collaborate to settle the emergent issues at hand,” she noted.
The LSK’s efforts highlight a collective resolve to maintain the integrity of the judicial system while addressing security concerns, ensuring that justice continues to be served effectively.
