Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi has called on the police to avoid using excessive force in managing the ongoing protests against the Finance Bill 2024. Elachi’s plea comes amidst growing concerns about the safety of children involved in the demonstrations.
Hon. Elachi emphasized that many of the protesters, including children, are peacefully exercising their constitutionally granted rights. “Our children must be protected,” she asserted, highlighting the innocence and peaceful intentions of the young protesters advocating for justice.
The MP stressed the importance of incorporating the public’s voice in the debate over the Finance Bill, which has sparked widespread unrest. “The people’s voice must be factored into this debate, and it should not be met with a heavy-handed approach,” she said, urging the government to listen to the grievances of the citizens.
“As parents, we should have a genuine conversation on how we can manage our children, listen to them, and address issues such as unemployment,” Elachi added.
