Nelson Nduki, Chairman of Kenya’s leading public transport company, Super Metro, has strongly condemned the unwarranted and unprovoked attack on innocent passengers when a teargas canister was lobbed inside a Super Metro matatu.
Chairman Nduki called for sobriety and the voice of reason as security forces continue their task of maintaining law and order. “The excessive use of force by the police is unacceptable and endangers the lives of innocent citizens,” he stated.
Protests have surged over the past week in response to the Finance Bill 2024, which many view as oppressive. The public outcry has led to widespread demonstrations across the country.
Mr. Nduki also noted the adverse impact of the protests on businesses, stressing the need for the government to address the grievances of the protesters. “Businesses are suffering as a result of the protests. The government should listen to the grievances of the protesters and provide solutions, not fight them. They owe them jobs and security,” he added.
The incident involving the Super Metro matatu has drawn significant attention, highlighting the broader issues of police conduct and public dissatisfaction with the Finance Bill. As tensions continue to mount, Mr. Nduki’s call for calm and dialogue underscores the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing unrest.
