Trade Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano visited Lamu today for the North Eastern and Coast Counties Investment Conference, where she witnessed firsthand the creativity and innovativeness displayed by community groups and SMEs. The event underscored her commitment to promoting investment in both the country and its counties, which are critical sources of job creation.
CS Miano emphasized the significance of investment in the region, drawing on her experience from her previous role in the Ministry in charge of Arid and Semi-Arid areas. “Having interacted with the Northern Counties in my previous assignment, I can certainly confirm that this region has the potential and all it takes to become the next economic frontier across all five represented ‘A’ Counties,” she noted.
The conference highlighted various value addition initiatives, particularly through the County Aggregation and Industrial Parks. These initiatives are designed to harness the region’s investment opportunities, spanning multiple BETA priority value chains such as leather, meat processing, feedlots, and edible oils.
“Our cooperation and value addition initiatives through our County Aggregation and Industrial Parks ensure that this region will fully realize its available investment opportunities,” CS Miano stated.
The conference showcased the dedication of both the government and local stakeholders in driving economic growth and development. By leveraging the natural and human resources of the Northern and Coastal Counties, Kenya can anticipate a robust and diversified economic landscape.
The event was a testament to the collaborative efforts required to unlock the full potential of these regions, making them significant contributors to the national economy.
