Faith Odhiambo, the President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), formally welcomed a new cohort of advocates into the profession following their recent admission to the bar. The ceremony, marked by celebration and reflection, was held yesterday and witnessed by family, friends, and notable legal practitioners.

In her address, Odhiambo extended heartfelt congratulations to the new advocates, acknowledging the dedication and hard work that led to this milestone. “It is my distinguished honour to welcome the newly admitted advocates to the Bar. Congratulations to each of you on this momentous achievement,” she began.

Odhiambo emphasized the critical role that these new advocates will play in the current socio-political landscape of Kenya. “You join the profession at a time when our country needs you more than ever. Today, you take up the honourable role of protectors of human rights, defenders of justice, and the voices of the voiceless. Your calling to stand firmly for the rule of law and constitutionalism is one you must answer to and remain unrelenting in,” she urged.

The President of the LSK reassured the new advocates of the society’s unwavering support as they embark on their legal careers. “As you set out into the uncertain venture of legal practice, be assured that the Law Society of Kenya will stand with you, ready to support you in all ways necessary to enable you to thrive,” Odhiambo affirmed.

The ceremony was a poignant reminder of the importance of the legal profession in upholding justice and constitutionalism in Kenya. The newly admitted advocates, now proudly referred to as ‘wakilis,’ were encouraged to remain steadfast and principled in their pursuit of justice.

In a lighter moment, Odhiambo humorously acknowledged the journey the new advocates had taken from their academic beginnings to their professional achievements. “Ambieni mwalimu wa maths mmefika kwa bar,” she quipped, drawing laughter and applause from the audience.

The event underscored the critical responsibility that comes with the legal profession and the collective hope that these new advocates will contribute significantly to the justice system in Kenya.
