Kenya Airways and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Kenya have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen their partnership in combating trafficking in persons and enhancing the protection of migrants. This collaboration aims to leverage IOM Kenya’s expertise in migration governance and Kenya Airways’ extensive aviation network to implement effective measures against trafficking and facilitate regular migration pathways.
Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO, Allan Kilavuka, expressed the airline’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and the welfare of all travelers. “The collaboration with IOM Kenya demonstrates our dedication to corporate social responsibility and the well-being of all travelers. We are committed to providing our staff with the necessary training and resources to assist migrants, particularly those in vulnerable situations,” Kilavuka said.
Ms. Dimanche Sharon, IOM Chief of Mission, emphasized the importance of the partnership. “This MOU marks a significant milestone in our efforts to safeguard the rights and dignity of migrants. By joining forces with Kenya Airways, we can enhance our outreach and impact, ensuring that migration is safe and beneficial for all,” she stated.
Key initiatives under the MOU include:
- Training and Awareness: Kenya Airways staff will receive specialized training from IOM to recognize and respond to migrants in vulnerable situations, improving coordination and assistance.
- Policy Development: Joint advocacy efforts will focus on creating policies that ensure a safer travel environment and disrupt traffickers’ operations.
- Information Sharing: A framework for sharing information between Kenya Airways and IOM will be established to facilitate timely interventions.
