Additionally, the Foundation funded a multi-specialty medical camp at King Fahad Referral Hospital and Mokowe Sub-County Hospital for KES 3 million, benefiting close to 900 residents.

The hospitals were equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment, including oxygen machines, nebulizers, medicine trolleys, suction machines, delivery beds, screening equipment, infant monitoring equipment, maternity chairs, and various surgical instruments.

“Health is one of our key pillars at M-PESA Foundation, with a major focus on maternal and child healthcare. Since 2018, we have invested in Lamu County under this pillar, providing access to maternal care for over 30,000 people. This time, we are expanding health services to residents of Mokowe and impacting over 900 residents of Lamu through our extensive medical camps,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman of Safaricom Foundation.

The new facilities will enable Mokowe Sub-County Hospital to conduct orthopedic, gynecological, and ophthalmic surgeries. Patients with specialized cases, such as chronic illnesses, can now access treatment, and women suffering from fistula can receive corrective surgeries.

“It is through such partnerships that we can address key challenges in our county. Access to healthcare is a critical need for our people, and we thank M-PESA Foundation for boosting our efforts in this sector. We look forward to improving health outcomes with the equipping of Mokowe Sub-County Hospital,” said Issa Timamy, Governor of Lamu County.

The medical camp offered orthopedic, pediatric, and specialist care using telemedicine technology. Additionally, 100 mama packs were distributed to women who delivered at King Fahad Referral Hospital as part of maternal care.
