The leadership of the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) is poised for a significant transformation as tea farmers from the 71 KTDA-managed factories prepare to exercise their democratic right to elect directors who will guide the organization’s future.
In Theta Tea Factory, located in Gatundu South, tea farmers recently endorsed directors who were unanimously elected a fortnight ago. Among these directors is Mr. David Muni Ichoho, the candidate for Zone 1.
Mr. Ichoho, who is the immediate former KTDA national chairman, has pledged to work tirelessly to promote the marketing, consumption, and value addition of Kenyan tea. He expressed his commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders for the betterment and benefit of the tea farmers.
Under Mr. Ichoho’s previous leadership, the earnings for tea farmers increased from Ksh 16 per kilo to Ksh 25 per kilo. He has vowed to continue his efforts to ensure further improvements in the sector, emphasizing the importance of unity and proactive engagement in addressing the challenges faced by tea farmers.
