Kenya and India Collaborate on Maritime Safety and Security

Principal Secretary for Shipping and Maritime Affairs Geoffrey Kaituko met with a visiting delegation of Indian naval and maritime officers on Monday.
The delegation was led by Commodore Saran Balaji from the Indian Department of Defence (IC-DoD) and Deputy High Commissioner to Kenya, Ambassador Rohit Vadhwana.
PS Kaituko emphasized the importance of Kenya and India’s collaboration in enhancing maritime safety and security in the Indian Ocean Region. He highlighted India’s support in establishing the Joint Maritime Information and Coordination Centre (JMICC) in Kenya, which will significantly boost Maritime Domain Awareness.
“This delegation is here on a scoping mission,” Kaituko noted. “The JMICC will greatly enhance coordination of maritime activities through information sharing, cooperation, and expertise development between various agencies and partner nations.”
The JMICC is expected to improve the overall maritime security framework in the region, fostering closer ties between Kenya and India in their shared maritime interests.
