A group of women leaders has rallied in support of Roselinda Soipan Tuya, the nominee for the Defence Ministry, condemning the alleged sexual-based bullying she has faced.
The leaders, including Suba MP Millie Odhiambo Mabona, have spoken out against the focus on Tuya’s personal life instead of her professional qualifications and achievements.
In a statement on Thursday, MP Odhiambo Mabona criticized those attacking Tuya, emphasizing the need to prioritize her credentials and vision over personal attacks. “It is high time we stopped these kinds of shenanigans. The nominee’s past relationships should not overshadow her qualifications, experience, achievements, strengths, and vision,” said Odhiambo Mabona. “It is wrong and immoral to focus on who she has had sex with in the past, who she is currently involved with, or who she may court next. We stand in solidarity with her.”
The support from women leaders highlights concerns about gender-based discrimination and the improper focus on personal matters instead of professional qualifications. The backlash against Tuya has sparked a broader conversation about the treatment of women in positions of power and the need for respectful and fair scrutiny of their professional capabilities.
