The primary objective of the meeting is to review the five-year plan and incorporate innovative strategies that leverage information technology, expand and promote market access, develop infrastructure, formalize MSEs, and build institutional capacity. The Strategic Plan aims to harness ICT tools for analytical research and data-driven initiatives that create borderless markets, contributing significantly to the growth of the MSE sector.

Aligned with the Bottom Up Transformation Agenda (BETA), the Strategic Plan focuses on strengthening and championing MSEA’s role in coordinating the MSE sector. The Plan underscores the importance of using ICT to conduct analytical research and implement data-driven initiatives, ultimately fostering a more dynamic and interconnected market for MSEs.

The workshop was officially opened by Susan Auma Mangeni, Principal Secretary of the State Department of MSME Development. In her opening remarks, she emphasized the critical role of MSEA in driving the growth and formalization of the MSE sector. Mangeni highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting MSEs through strategic initiatives that enhance market access, infrastructure development, and institutional capacity building.

CEO Henry Rithaa expressed optimism about the outcomes of the workshop, stating, “Our goal is to create a strategic framework that not only aligns with global trends but also addresses the unique challenges and opportunities within our local MSE sector. By leveraging technology and innovative strategies, we aim to create a more resilient and competitive market for MSEs.”

The workshop brings together various stakeholders from the MSE sector, including industry experts, policymakers, and representatives from MSEA. Through collaborative discussions and brainstorming sessions, the participants aim to develop a comprehensive and forward-looking Strategic Plan that will guide the MSE sector’s growth and development over the next five years.

The MSEA Strategic Plan 2023-2024 is set to be a transformative blueprint, driving the MSE sector towards greater heights of success and sustainability. As the workshop progresses, it is expected to yield actionable insights and strategic initiatives that will propel the MSE sector into a new era of growth and innovation.
