The President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Faith Odhiambo, has issued a call to action for volunteer advocates to assist in securing the release of individuals detained during recent demonstrations.
In a statement, Odhiambo shared that she and her team visited Central Police Station this morning, where approximately 60 people were being held after being arrested during yesterday’s protests. These individuals are expected to be arraigned at City Court later today. Additionally, 25 others detained at Kamukunji Police Station are set to be arraigned at Milimani.
Odhiambo emphasized the importance of a coordinated legal response, stating, “We call upon all our volunteer advocates to join both in Milimani and City Court to secure the release of the comrades.” She also announced that additional legal teams would be dispatched to Kileleshwa, Gigiri, Buruburu, and other police stations where protesters are reportedly being held, to ensure that all detainees are accounted for and receive the necessary legal support.
The LSK President further encouraged the public to continue sharing information about the arrests to aid in the legal efforts.
