Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has urged female governors to champion domestic tourism to boost local engagement and encourage Kenyans to explore their own country.

Speaking at the G7 activation event held at Kenyatta Stadium Grounds in Machakos County on Thursday, August 15, Miano emphasized the importance of promoting domestic tourism, which she highlighted as being significantly underdeveloped.

Miano appealed to the governors to take the lead in motivating Kenyans to discover the various attractions within their own borders.

“Let us work together in encouraging Kenyans to know and tour our country,” she stated, underlining the need for collaborative efforts to enhance the tourism sector from within.

The G7, a group of seven prominent female governors in Kenya, were also recognized during the event for their influential roles in leadership and advancing gender representation. Miano praised their contributions, saying, “You have moved the tectonic plates of leadership in our country and carved a place of honour for women across Kenya.”

Her call to action is part of a broader strategy to strengthen domestic tourism, positioning it as a vital component of Kenya’s overall tourism industry. By engaging local communities and leaders, Miano hopes to foster a greater appreciation for Kenya’s diverse attractions among its citizens, ultimately driving economic growth and reinforcing national pride.
