The President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Faith Odhiambo, has issued an urgent plea to Kenyans to come together in support of Steven Munyakho, a fellow Kenyan who has been incarcerated in Saudi Arabia since 2011. Munyakho, who was originally sentenced to five years for manslaughter after a fatal altercation with a co-worker, now faces the death penalty following an appeal by the deceased’s family in a Sharia Court.
However, there is still hope for Munyakho’s life to be spared. The family of the deceased has agreed to accept compensation of Kshs. 150 million, which, if paid, will secure his release. Thanks to the efforts of the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the deadline for this payment has been extended, providing a crucial window for action.
In her heartfelt message, Odhiambo called on all Kenyans to contribute towards the cause, emphasizing the power of unity in saving a life. “Let’s Bring Back Stevo!” she urged, directing contributions to MPesa Paybill Number 8056675, with the account number being the donor’s name.
The initiative is a final push to gather the necessary funds to bring Munyakho back home, highlighting the collective responsibility of the nation to stand by one of their own in a time of desperate need.
