Tourism and Wildlife Leaders Advocate for Sustainable Travel During Maasai Mara Visit

In a show of commitment to both tourism and conservation, key figures in Kenya’s tourism sector, including Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Hon. Rebecca Miano, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Director General Dr. Erustus Kanga, and Magical Kenya CEO June Chepkemei, engaged in discussions on the importance of sustainable tourism and wildlife conservation during their recent visit to the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

The leaders participated in an inaugural game drive through the reserve, where they assessed the condition of tourism infrastructure and visitor facilities following recent floods. This event coincided with the annual Great Migration, one of the world’s most spectacular wildlife events, drawing tourists from across the globe.

The visit included a live streaming event organized in collaboration with the China Media Group to showcase the Great Migration, a key contributor to Kenya’s economy. During the event, the leaders emphasized the critical need for preserving the ecosystem of parks and reserves, ensuring that future generations can also enjoy Kenya’s rich wildlife heritage.

Dr. Kanga and Ms. Chepkemei took the opportunity to connect with both local and international tourists, sharing insights on the significance of responsible travel and the role of conservation in sustaining Kenya’s natural resources. They highlighted the importance of maintaining the delicate balance between tourism and wildlife conservation to protect these vital ecosystems.

Hosted by Narok County Governor, H.E. Patrick Ole Ntutu, and senior county officials, the visit underscored Kenya’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable tourism and ensure the protection of its iconic wildlife and natural landscapes.
