In a bid to enhance economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents, Mwea Member of Parliament, Hon. Mary Maingi, has launched a comprehensive registration drive across the constituency aimed at increasing household access to electricity. This initiative is part of the ongoing last-mile connectivity program, carried out in partnership with the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).

Speaking on the progress of the initiative, Hon. Maingi emphasized the importance of electricity access in transforming the lives of her constituents. “My goal is to connect more households to the power grid, empowering families with access to electricity, which will drive economic growth and improve their quality of life,” she stated.

So far, the registration drive has successfully covered California and Gituto areas in Thiba Ward, as well as Kiria Village in Kangai Ward. These areas have seen significant progress, with many households already benefiting from the new connections. The program is set to continue, with plans to extend coverage to more villages in the coming days.

Hon. Maingi’s efforts are aligned with her broader vision of uplifting the socio-economic status of Mwea Constituency. Access to electricity is seen as a critical factor in enabling businesses to operate efficiently, improving education through access to technology, and enhancing the overall well-being of the residents.

The partnership with REREC underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that even the most rural areas of the country are not left behind in the drive towards universal electricity access. By focusing on last-mile connectivity, the program aims to bridge the gap between the national power grid and the households that have yet to benefit from it.

As the registration drive continues, residents of Mwea Constituency can look forward to a brighter future, quite literally, as more homes are powered up and opportunities for growth and development are unlocked.
