Pharmacy and Poisons Board Takes Part in Inaugural SAGAs Meeting

Dr. Charles Githingi, Chairman of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), and Dr. F. M. Siyoi, CEO, participated in the inaugural meeting for Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) organized by the Ministry of Health.

The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, was chaired by Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Barasa, and included various agency heads under the Ministry.

The gathering aimed to address critical issues affecting SAGAs, focusing on several key areas:

Strategic Communication: Emphasis was placed on improving the communication strategies of SAGAs to ensure clear, consistent messaging both internally and externally.

Community Engagement: Enhancing community outreach efforts was discussed as a priority, with the goal of better aligning agency services with the needs of the public.

Combating Corruption: Addressing corruption and promoting transparency within SAGAs were highlighted as essential measures for maintaining public trust and operational integrity.

Performance Targets: The meeting underscored the importance of meeting performance contract targets, with a collective commitment to achieving set goals and improving service delivery.

    In her opening remarks, Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa stressed the need for SAGAs to work collaboratively and leverage their unique positions to drive health sector improvements.

    The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, who echoed the sentiments of increased accountability and efficiency.

    Dr. Githingi and Dr. Siyoi contributed to discussions on the Pharmacy and Poisons Board’s role in regulating the pharmaceutical sector and ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines. They highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance regulatory practices and strengthen community engagement.

    The session concluded with a commitment from all participants to implement the discussed strategies and foster greater synergy among SAGAs to advance Kenya’s health sector goals.
