Principal Secretary for Mining Elijah Mwangi, alongside Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs Hon. Ali Hassan Joho, participated in a crucial consultative forum with a delegation of leaders from Taita-Taveta County, led by Governor Dr. Andrew Mwadime – Wakujaa. The meeting, held in Nairobi, was a follow-up to CS Joho’s recent visit to Taita-Taveta, where he engaged with local leaders and stakeholders to explore mining investment opportunities in the region.
During the forum, CS Joho reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing collaboration between the national government and county governments to boost mining investments at the devolved level. He emphasized the importance of strengthening linkages between the State Department for Mining and county governments, which is vital for the growth and sustainable development of the mining sector in Kenya.
Taita-Taveta County, known for its rich mineral deposits, including iron ore, gemstones, and rubies, stands to benefit significantly from such partnerships. The meeting highlighted the alignment of the State Department for Mining’s vision for sustainable mineral exploitation with the county government’s development agenda. This alignment is seen as a critical step toward unlocking and optimizing the region’s vast mining potential.
Governor Dr. Andrew Mwadime expressed his optimism about the future of mining in the county, noting that with the right strategies and collaboration, Taita-Taveta could become a leading mining hub in the country. Among the leaders present were Senator Johnes Mwaruma, Women Representative Lydia Haika, and Members of Parliament Danson Mwashako (Wundanyi), Abdi Chome (Voi), Peter Shake (Mwatate), and John Bwire (Taveta). Their presence underscored the county’s united front in advocating for the development of the mining sector.
