The Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) office in Tharaka Nithi recently visited Magut Dairy Farm, a shining example of rapid growth and success in the Muungoni region of Chuka Igambang’ombe constituency.

Established just three years ago with a humble beginning of only three cows, Magut Dairy Farm has experienced remarkable expansion. The farm now boasts over 30 cows and produces an impressive 600 liters of milk daily, making it a significant player in the local dairy industry. Beyond its production achievements, the farm has also become a vital source of employment in the community, providing jobs for 10 local residents.

Currently, the farm specializes in two breeds: Friesian and Jersey cows, both known for their high milk production and adaptability to the local climate. With these breeds, Magut Dairy Farm has been able to consistently meet the demands of the market.

Looking to the future, the farm’s owner has ambitious plans for further expansion. He envisions scaling up operations to accommodate over 200 cows, with the goal of increasing daily milk production to 6,000 liters. This growth strategy includes fully mechanizing the farm’s processes to enhance efficiency, productivity, and sustainability.

To realize this vision, the owner has expressed a strong interest in accessing financing through the Kenya Youth Employment and Training (KJET) program, facilitated by MSEA. This financial support would enable the farm to invest in the necessary infrastructure and technology to achieve its ambitious targets.

Magut Dairy Farm’s expansion is not only aimed at increasing productivity but also at creating more employment opportunities for the youth in Tharaka Nithi County. The farm’s success story underscores the potential of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in transforming the local economy, particularly in the agricultural sector.

As Magut Dairy Farm continues to grow, it serves as an inspiring example for other MSEs in the region, demonstrating how dedication, strategic planning, and the right support can lead to significant achievements in the dairy value chain.
