On September 2, 2024, the KEPHIS Board of Directors, led by Board Chairman Hon. Joseph Eruaki and Managing Director Prof. Theophilus Mutui, conducted an extensive tour of the KEPHIS offices at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The board was briefed on the inspection and documentation processes essential for exporting Kenya’s horticultural produce, including flowers, avocados, mangoes, Asian vegetables, passion fruits, herbs, snow peas, and French beans.
These rigorous inspections ensure that Kenya’s exports meet the strict requirements of international markets such as Europe, Australia, the US, Israel, the Middle East, Russia, and the UAE, thereby boosting trade.
The board also visited the KEPHIS Namanga One-Stop Border Post, where they observed the multi-agency inspection and certification procedures for goods crossing the Kenya-Tanzania border.
At this facility, KEPHIS plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with phytosanitary regulations, preventing the spread of pests and diseases, and maintaining agricultural health.
KEPHIS’s efforts in inspection, issuance of phytosanitary certificates, and pest risk analysis contribute to safe and efficient cross-border trade, enhance regional economic integration, and ensure the quality and safety of Kenyan exports.
