Safaricom PLC (NSE: SCOM) has hosted the fourth series of its ‘Grow with Safaricom Business’ platform, targeting MSMEs in the Coast region. This initiative aims to promote the digital transformation of enterprises to boost their competitiveness and drive Kenya’s economic prosperity.

The forum is designed to equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge needed to scale their businesses using technology. It also provides MSMEs with an opportunity to exchange ideas on leveraging digital technologies to enhance market reach, streamline operations, and build a strong online brand presence.

According to the Kenya Institute of Public Policy Research and Analysis, there are over 7.4 million MSMEs in Kenya, employing approximately 14.9 million people across various sectors and contributing 30% of the country’s GDP.

“Despite their significant contribution to the economy, MSMEs face considerable challenges, including inadequate knowledge and skills, and rapid technological changes that hinder their growth. At Safaricom, we believe in the power of technology to transform businesses, which is why we are hosting the ‘Grow with Safaricom Business’ series to empower MSMEs,” said Cynthia Kropac, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at Safaricom.

As the global economy rapidly digitalizes, it is estimated that 70% of new value created over the coming decade will be based on digitally enabled platform business models.

Launched in March this year, the Grow with Safaricom Business forum also offers networking opportunities for MSMEs to connect with peers, industry experts, and potential partners.
